Delta Zeta Honors Tani Austin as their 2016 Convention Initiate

July 08, 2016

Starkey Hearing Foundation Receives $1.2 Million to Accelerate the Pace and Scope of Missions to Reach More Patients Who Need Hearing Health Care

Mrs. Austin will be initiated into the Sorority on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Delta Zeta’s National Convention in Orlando Florida.  Tani’s dedication to hearing heath care aligns with Delta Zeta’s Speech and Hearing cause, which has been the Sorority’s national philanthropy since 1954.

During the first day of the convention Tani told the members, "Hearing gives life. The ear is the road to the heart."

The first evening at the convention featured a memorable program. After Tani was announced to become the convention initiate, and the Foundation was surprised by the vast donation announcement, Jessica Sanchez wrapped up the night with an inspired performance that got the more 600 in attendance jumping around the ballroom.

In 2006, Delta Zeta’s National Convention voted to make Starkey Hearing Foundation a philanthropic partner with Delta Zeta. The Sorority has pledged to raise $5 million over the next five years to Starkey Hearing Foundation.

“We are truly honored to have Tani join us in our sisterhood,” said Diane M. Stecher, National President. “She and her husband, Bill, are pioneers in the field of hearing, and believe that the gift of hearing, which brings the gift of communication, is the path to world peace. Delta Zeta believes that, too. We know that, together, our important work is a global mission that cannot fail. Tani’s friendship and sisterhood, made possible by her initiation, enhance Delta Zeta and its members through her passion to better the world.”

Delta Zeta Sorority participates in Starkey Hearing Foundation hearing missions around the world as recently as Guyana in June.

This relationship illustrates the power of expanding Starkey Hearing Foundation’s reach and relevance as the Sorority has more than 261,000 alumnae and collegiate members in the United States and Canada.
