World Hearing Day 2017

March 02, 2017

World Hearing Day is celebrated each year on March 3 to raise awareness and promote ear and hearing healthcare around the world. This year, the theme for World Hearing Day is, “Action for hearing loss: make a sound investment,” underlining the global economic impact of hearing loss and cost effectiveness of interventions to address it. According to the World Health Organization, unaddressed hearing loss costs $750 billion a year globally.

Starkey Hearing Foundation focuses on ear and hearing healthcare on a global scale. The World Health Organization estimates more than 360 million people have disabling hearing loss, with the greatest prevalence living in developing countries. Unfortunately, less than 3 percent of these individuals can afford hearing aids or even have access to the care they need. Starkey Hearing Foundation is working tirelessly to change this by building strong partnerships, empowering local teams and expanding our four-phase Community-Based Hearing HealthCare model around the world. So far, the foundation has implemented programs in 51 countries.

During World Hearing Day, Starkey Foundation will showcase its contribution to global hearing healthcare through its simple, scalable, sustainable programs around the world.
