Working from early in the morning until late into the evening, the team was excited to be back in beautiful Malawi. Malawi President Joyce Banda showed her support and joined us as we worked to provide thousands of hearing aids to adults and children in need.

Malaria and meningitis are common in Malawi, and both diseases, and their required life-saving treatment, can often result in hearing loss. Many of the older patients had lost their hearing this way, including a husband and wife who had been unable to communicate fully with each other for more than 20 years. The 72-year-old husband had developed hearing loss after a bad bout of malaria and had spent years struggling to hear his family, which over the years had grown from children to grandchildren. Once he was fit, the entire family began dancing and hugging, overjoyed to have their patriarch back.
