Maputo, Quelimane
May 2015 Mozambique
From Madagascar, the team crossed the Mozambique Channel and arrived in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique. This would be a special trip to the coastal nation, as the team would hold Phase 2 missions as well as Community-Based Hearing HealthCare trainings for 21 government healthcare workers.
Longtime friends of the Foundation, Leigh, Lisa and Roger Kassner and Leia Knight, helped lead the mission. In addition, we welcomed Operation Change contest winners Jennifer and Joseph Perez to the team to help us change lives. We worked late into the night, using the headlights of parked cars to complete the work.
After trainings and fittings in Maputo, the team headed northeast to the seaport city of Quelimane to give the gift of hearing. The fitting site was full of energy as we fit patients, particularly the children! After fitting a group, they started dancing in the lobby, exploring their new connection to the world of sound.
