July 2016 Democratic Republic of the Congo

Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital founder, former NBA legend and longtime friend of the Foundation Dikembe Mutombo joined us at the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) hearing mission to share in the joy of patients receiving the gift of hearing.

The DRC has a very tumultuous past, yet many conditions continue to improve and optimism reigns with the country’s resilient citizens, which is what brings our team back year after year.

In early July, our hearing mission team returned to the DRC to give hearing health care to thousands of people in need in Kinshasa.

Mutombo’s words to our team were wonderfully appreciative as he said “I don’t know how much I can express my thanks to Bill, Tani and Starkey Hearing Foundation for the wonderful work you are doing to change lives.”

Another friend, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr., accompanied our team in what became his eighth country in which he has traveled with us.

As he always does, Fitzgerald showed as much determination in helping patients as he does in his work that makes him an All-Pro receiver. He diligently worked with patients to make sure their hearing aids were providing the sound they needed.
