Looking Forward to the Future
As we forge ahead into our new reality of 2021, Starkey Hearing Foundation celebrates the impact and care given since its inception in 1984 when founder, William F. Austin shared his vision, “So the World May Hear.” As we move into a Post Covid-19 world, we will continue to prioritize education and training of our unique WFA® hearing healthcare model to support the sustainability of our partners’ programs in developing countries around the globe.
Starkey Hearing Foundation has traveled the globe the last 20 years helping millions hear while providing training and education on hearing, hearing loss and hearing aids. We’ve created hearing healthcare professionals and programs in 70 countries through our unique combination of knowledge and skill sets for community-based hearing health care. Due to the impact of the global pandemic, our foundation and strategy is moving to the next chapter of supporting our global partnerships, while our goal to help others, remains unwavering.
William F. Austin inspired the creation of the WFA® community-based hearing healthcare model which has created a true path for sustainable community-based hearing healthcare never before realized for people at the most vulnerable level. Through this work we have established true sustainability as we no longer need to be physically present to have this level of care exist for these communities. Therefore, Starkey Hearing Foundation is moving to a higher level of support through training and educating our in-country partners across the globe.
Starkey Hearing Foundation established the Starkey Hearing Institute (SHI) in 2016. SHI was developed to address the shortage of hearing healthcare professionals in the developing world. SHI continues to graduate hearing healthcare champions who are successfully returning to their countries and communities to make immediate social impact for better hearing on individuals and families alike.
SHI provides a year long, accredited, professional ear and hearing health training. The curriculum includes the WFA Community-Based Hearing Healthcare Program, partnering with the International Hearing Society, World Health Organization, The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Queen Margaret University and the University Teaching Hospital in Zambia.
Our unique curriculum at SHI takes into account all aspects of hearing healthcare; combined to create a very complete and effective entry level hearing health care model which allows us to serve and access the greatest number of people in the most vulnerable situations.
As we move into our new normal in a Post Covid-19 world, Starkey Hearing Foundation will continue to prioritize education and training of our unique WFA® hearing healthcare model to support the sustainability of our partners’ programs in developing countries around the globe. So the World May Hear!
Life is made up of sharing ideas, dreams and goals. Hearing is vital to that. Giving one person the gift of hearing may seem like a small act of kindness, but it has a compounding effect on the future of our world.
