Life is made up of sharing ideas, dreams and goals. Being able to hear is vital to that, and can have a compounding effect on the future of our world.

Nowangye Fiona is a 13-year-old student in Uganda. Recently she visited Starkey Hearing Foundation to check on her hearing aids as she prepares for her school exams this term. Since receiving her first pair of hearing aids in 2020, she has made great strides in her studies. Her parents credit Starkey Hearing Foundation and the devices provided that help her hear her teachers, classmates and friends at school.

Starkey Hearing Foundation continues to support people in the communities it serves. The foundation’s hearing healthcare coordinators provide Active Care services that include additional counseling, batteries, and repair and replacement of hearing devices and earmolds as needed. Wakayinja James, a fisherman and a farmer in the Buvuma Islands of Uganda, is one of many patients who have benefited from this important ongoing care.

Wakayinja lost his hearing after getting caught in a thunderstorm while fishing on Lake Victoria. In 2016, he received his first pair of hearing aids from Starkey Hearing Foundation and he recently had them checked an Active Care appointment. Wakayinja says since coming to Starkey Hearing Foundation many years ago, his life has changed for better and he’s grateful for this second chance to hear.
