January 2014 Dominican Republic

Excited to be back in the land of merengue, the team went directly to work opening up the world of sound, music and dance to children and adults in a culture defined by rhythm. Baseball Hall of Famer Paul Molitor and dedicated partner FedEx joined the team to help give the gift of hearing to more than 1,700 people.

Baseball is a national obsession in the Dominican Republic, and Molitor gave one Minnesota Twins fan the thrill of a lifetime when he personally fit him with new hearing aids. The young man could not wait to go to a game to hear the roar of the crowd and the crack of the bat.

Daughter of longtime Foundation supporter Mike Wheeler, Juliet, has joined us in the Dominican Republic for the past three years. During each trip, she helped to fit the same twin brothers who have understandably grown attached to her. This year, as soon as the twins saw her, they came running to greet her knowing that she would make sure they remained connected to the world of sound.
