Summer Sounds Benefit

The butterfly represents more than just change. It represents a transformation into something bolder and more beautiful. In 2019, Starkey Hearing Foundation’s annual fundraising event underwent a transformation of its own becoming our very first Summer Sounds Benefit, held at The Armory in Minneapolis, MN. Together with over 800 of our dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and leaders from around the world, we recognized and celebrated the global impact Starkey Hearing Foundation donors make for people in need.

On July 20, The Armory was illuminated with bright, blue butterflies and twinkling lights showcasing the event’s theme, Because of You. Through the theme, Starkey Hearing Foundation supporters were reminded that the “butterfly effect” was made possible because of them. Our donors were greeted by Starkey Hearing Foundation friend, and hearing loss advocate, Justin Osmond. Ahead of the program, Osmond helped us express our sincere gratitude for them and thank them for all that they continue to passionately support.

In 2019, Starkey Hearing Foundation honored Cardinals’ star wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald and award-winning actor and philanthropist, Billy Crystal for their humanitarian efforts with the Caring Award.

“‘Alone we can’t do much. Together we can change the world.’ These two amazing individuals [Bill and Tani] have proven those words to be true by changing the world one life at a time,” said Fitzgerald. “They've given me an opportunity to invest my life into something that would last much longer than catching touchdown passes and risking my life across the middle.”

Billy Crystal reflected, “I’ve been fortunate to support Starkey Hearing Foundation for fifteen years. Doing a [hearing] mission together in Peru was one of the greatest highlights of my life. And to do it alongside my granddaughters was really special.” “One thing I've learned is you don't have to be brilliant or famous or powerful or wealthy to make a difference in someone's life. You simply have to care.”

The program also featured audience-favorite and stand-up comedian, Sinbad. The Summer Sounds Benefit was made complete with performances by the melodious vocal group, ARIA, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend, Sammy Hagar.
